In 2022, Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations were acquired by the WestJet Group, which includes WestJet and WestJet Encore. Sunwing Airlines is currently undergoing an integration process to be fully merged with WestJet by the fall of 2025. Sunwing pilots joined ALPA in late November 2024 and will function as a separate Master Executive Council until all pilots have transitioned to WestJet.
Sunwing Airlines was founded in 2005 as a leisure carrier providing exclusive lift for travel company Sunwing Vacations using a fleet of B-737s. Today, Sunwing offers direct flights from departure points in Canada and the United States to more than 45 vacation destinations across the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and Florida. Sunwing Vacations is now the largest travel-packaged holiday company in the Canadian market.
