In January 2024, a federal court in Boston, Mass., ruled in favor of the Department of Justice and enjoined the proposed merger between JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines, illustrating anew how unpredictable the airline industry can be. The new slate of Master Executive Council (MEC) officers, who took office on Nov. 1, 2023, had prepared for either outcome of the trial and are monitoring any appeals of the decision. The officers remain focused on protecting and enhancing the careers of JetBlue pilots regardless of the uncertain future of the merger.

The pilot group continued its remarkable growth in 2023, adding more than 200 pilots. Each of the year’s 24 new-hire classes were greeted by pilot leaders and introduced to the many ways ALPA works on the pilots’ behalf. The MEC hosts pilot unity-building events in conjunction with every MEC meeting, which encourages all pilots to engage directly with union leaders while receiving accurate information and answers to their questions.
