Pascan Aviation pilots officially joined ALPA in August 2023 after the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) announced it had certified the results of the pilot group’s June card filing. Due to the overwhelming percentage of Pascan pilots who filed cards, the CIRB bypassed an election and instead finalized the decision, granting representation rights to ALPA.

ALPA negotiators, with direct input from the pilot group, began negotiating in September. During contract talks, management agreed to dozens of contract articles including Grievances and Filling of Vacancies. With a growing wage gap, the primary focus in 2024 will be increasing first officer pay, which is among the lowest of all Canadian carriers, and completing negotiations.

In November, F/O Mathieu Pouliot was elected the pilot group’s acting Master Executive Council (MEC) chair and Local Executive Council (LEC) first officer representative/acting chair, and F/O Aina Gilbertson was elected the MEC secretary-treasurer/acting vice chair and the LEC secretary-treasurer. The pilots were expected to elect an MEC chair and vice chair in early 2024 for the term ending on Feb. 28, 2025.

Established in 1999, Pascan Aviation is based in Montréal, Qué., and its fleet includes BAE Jetstream 32s and Saab 340s. The regional airline provides scheduled flight service to 10 destinations as well as charter services in Québec, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
