Delta Air Line pilots achieved significant and comprehensive improvements to their pilot working agreement (PWA) in 2023, paving the way for pattern bargaining in the airline industry. With negotiations complete, the Delta Master Executive Council (MEC) turned its focus to contract education, implementation, and enforcement. Numerous quality-of-life provisions were phased in throughout 2023 as well as the launch of a market-based cash balance retirement plan, the first of its kind in the airline industry. Additional contractual provisions will take effect in 2024 and 2025. The current PWA becomes amendable on Dec. 31, 2026. Preparations for the next round of negotiations will begin in late 2024.
Delta pilots have also actively supported peers at other ALPA pilot groups, including Air Canada, Air Transport International, United, and WestJet as they negotiate new contracts, sharing best practices and showing solidarity on the picket line. In addition, the pilots have supported the unionization efforts of other Delta employee groups as they fight to gain the benefits of belonging to a union.
