ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to FedEx Express Capt. Gary Janelli

Retired Anchorage Pilot Honored for Commitment to Advancing Safety

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized retired FedEx Express Airlines Capt. Gary Janelli with a Presidential Citation at its 65th Air Safety Forum.

“Capt. Janelli’s dedication to his colleagues and to advancing the airline piloting profession is a stellar example of how one individual can impact an entire industry,” said Capt. Joe DePete, ALPA president. “Through his role as a dedicated member of the FedEx Express Central Air Safety Committee and his work on investigations with the FAA and NTSB, he has truly played a part in making our aviation system the safest in the world. He is an asset to ALPA and a powerful advocate for aviation safety.”

Capt. Janelli was an outstanding leader during his 20 years on the FedEx Express Central Air Safety Committee, serving as chair and vice chair for much of his tenure. Capt. Janelli also led the FedEx Express Master Executive Council Accident Investigation Committee, where he served as an ALPA rep to several NTSB accident investigations.

“FedEx Express pilots have undoubtedly benefited from Capt. Janelli’s numerous contributions to aviation safety. Through his work on the FedEx Express MEC Central Air Safety Committee and Accident Investigation Committee, Capt. Janelli has played a key role in enhancing safety for his fellow pilots through his relentless quest for the safest way to conduct all flight operations,” said Capt. Pete Harmon, chairman of the FedEx Express branch of ALPA.
