Maple Grove Pilot Honored for Commitment to Aviation Security

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized Sun Country Airlines Capt. Eric Herman with a Presidential Citation for his tireless commitment to improving security training for pilots. The award was presented during ALPA’s 62nd Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.

“ALPA volunteers like Capt. Herman are the foundation of our union and a major component in ensuring that ALPA remains the largest, most effective nongovernmental safety organization in the world,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president. “Capt. Herman’s dedication to ensure that pilots have the resources needed to protect the cockpit at any cost helps promote aviation security across the industry. We are grateful for all of his efforts and proud to recognize his numerous accomplishments that continue to advance the piloting profession.”

As a lead instructor for crewmember self-defense training, he serves as a vital resource to his fellow pilots at Sun Country, as well as other airlines. In addition to his collaborative efforts in developing curriculum for ALPA’s security training course, he also worked closely with airline management to provide important security information for international operations.
