Capt. Richard Hughey, FedEx Express

2023 PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

Captain Richard Hughey is the recipient of a 2023 ALPA Air Safety Presidential Citation for his contributions to aviation safety.

Captain Hughey currently serves as the ALPA FedEx Central Air Safety Committee chair, co-lead of the CAST Data/Metrics Tiger Team, member of the CAST Strategic Implementation Team, and member of Joint Implementation Data Analysis Team (JIMDAT). He previously served as the ALPA Aviation Safety chair. Captain Hughey believes that safety knowledge should be shared and trusted across properties and always be a team sport. This total team concept requires collaboration across traditional barriers and includes labor, airlines, regulators, manufacturers, trade associations, and contractors.

Captain Hughey also applies this approach in his work as the ALPA Cargo Committee chair, a role in which he highlights the all-cargo pilot community's risk differences and safety deficiencies. In addition to his safety work, Captain Hughey previously served as the ALPA FedEx Scheduling Committee chair, and on the ALPA Flight-Time/Duty-Time Committee.
