ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to FedEx Express Capt. Scott Schwartz
Chicago Pilot Honored for Commitment to Advancing Safety
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized FedEx Express Airlines Capt. Scott Schwartz with a Presidential Citation at its 65th Air Safety Forum.
“Capt. Schwartz’s dedication to his colleagues and to advancing the airline piloting profession is a stellar example of how one individual can impact an entire industry,” said Capt. Joe DePete, ALPA president. “Through his efforts as Director of ALPA’s Dangerous Goods Program, Capt. Schwartz has promoted a safer environment for pilots around the globe. He is a true asset to ALPA and a powerful advocate for aviation safety.”
In addition to his work as director of the ALPA Dangerous Goods Program, Capt. Schwartz also serves as chair of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Associations (IFALPA) Dangerous Goods Committee, and was nominated by IFALPA to be on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Dangerous Goods Panel. As a member of the panel, Schwartz has been a tireless advocate for all things related to aviation safety. His work in advancing safety reporting programs has resulted in a collaborative approach between pilots and management and led to better coordination across the board. Capt. Schwartz’s efforts on behalf of ALPA have made him a respected voice for pilots around the world.
“FedEx Express pilots have routinely benefited from Capt. Schwartz’s relentless pursuit of airline safety improvements. He has addressed not only safety processes and procedures, but has also been absolutely essential to building a trustworthy culture—strongly enhancing safety that bridges many, often competing, entities. We are grateful for his long time service to the pilot group, ALPA, and the profession, and certainly to have him as a leader and pioneer for safety in the industry,” said Capt. Pete Harmon chairman of the FedEx Express branch of ALPA.
