ALPA Statement on Deal to Temporarily End Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) released the following statement today as a temporary deal to reopen the government for three weeks was announced:

“We are grateful to Congress and the President for working together to temporarily end the government shutdown. We are, and continue to remain, indebted to all the safety and security professionals who reported to work for the past 35 days, without pay, to ensure safe, secure, and efficient air transportation for our passengers and cargo shippers. We urge all parties to find a bipartisan solution that will provide stable, long- term funding so that these workers, and our country, are never in this situation again.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 61,000 pilots at 33 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
