Today, I joined Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx and various stakeholders in announcing the launch of a new task force assigned to streamline a registration process for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
ALPA supports the decision to create this task force and we look forward to participating in the development of the procedures necessary to help ensure we maintain the highest levels of safety of our aviation system.
As the operators responsible for flying passengers and cargo, pilots are hyper-focused on ensuring the safety of our aviation system, including the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace.
Today’s announcement is just another example of ALPA’s commitment to identifying and implementing comprehensive solutions for the safe and responsible operation of UAS. Earlier this month, I testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Aviation Subcommittee and highlighted ALPA’s four-part plan aimed at safely integrating UAS. By focusing efforts on education, registration, technology, penalties, and enforcement, we believe our country can take advantage of the economic opportunities offered by UAS while maintaining safety.
