Capt. Steven Curry, United Airlines

2020 AVIATION SECURITY AWARD and 2019 PRESIDENTIAL CITATION


Capt. Steven Curry is honored with the 2020 ALPA Aviation Security Award for his work representing ALPA with a variety of federal law enforcement agencies, including the federal air marshals and airport police. As the union’s subject-matter expert in law enforcement, he liaisons with the Air Safety Organization and members of the Airport Law Enforcement Agency Network. Capt. Curry has done a tremendous job in bolstering these relationships, working to improve and enhance communication and coordination. He has been intensely involved with ALPA’s Known Crewmember (KCM) Task Force, working with TSA leadership to gather accurate data, improve effectiveness and efficiency, and address any inconsistencies with TSA screening and KCM functions. Capt. Curry has contributed countless hours to promote current and future security initiatives and has worked to ensure a mutually beneficial collaborative effort among law enforcement and security stakeholders.


Capt. Steven Curry is honored as the recipient of a 2019 ALPA Presidential Citation for his contributions to aviation security. Since 2019, Capt. Curry has been the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) stakeholder for the United MEC. He is also the law enforcement liaison for ALPA’s Air Safety Organization Aviation Security Committee. Capt. Curry has worked for many years on FFDO, Known Crewmember (KCM), and numerous other aviation security issues. His work resulted in the restoration of KCM front-of-the-line TSA precheck privileges for uniformed crew. He also helped to organize the first ever FFDO training with the federal air marshals (FAMs). Capt. Curry has selflessly dedicated his time to ensure the security of his fellow line pilots and continues to share his expertise for the benefit of everyone concerned with aviation security.
