FedEx Pilots Statement Regarding United States Postal Service Contract
MEMPHIS—The FedEx Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA) issued the following statement today following the announcement by FedEx Corporation that negotiations to extend its agreement to provide domestic transportation services to the United States Postal Service, which will expire on September 29, 2024, ended unsuccessfully on March 29, 2024:
“With each new announcement, FedEx management continues to threaten every FedEx employee’s job security and quality of life. Regretfully, this news is not surprising given that recent actions taken by FedEx executive leadership have diminished the company’s competitive advantage. A business that was once the industry leader and the gold standard is rapidly turning into a cautionary tale.
“FedEx continues to spend billions in stock buybacks while simultaneously announcing layoffs of employees who’ve helped build it into the brand it is today. The direction in which our company’s leadership continues to move is concerning. We urge management to return to the principles FedEx was built upon if they desire to remain a global leader in the industry.”
Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 77,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit ALPA.org or follow us on Twitter @ALPAPilots.
