ATI Pilots Bring Value to ATSG

WASHINGTON—Air Transport Services Group Inc. (ATSG), parent company of Air Transport International (ATI), reports its second-quarter earnings this week. The ATI pilots, who are consistently the bright spot in ATSG’s portfolio, ask the Company, once again, to invest in the pilot group to continue making their success possible.

“ATI is at the forefront of ATSG’s value, regularly earning the Company performance bonuses and averaging a 98 percent on-time rate. To be clear, these achievements reflect our pilots’ commitment to delivering a quality product to our customers despite an overwhelming lack of support from management,” said Capt. Mike Sterling, chair of the ATI pilots’ union.

In the first-quarter earnings call, ATSG CEO Rich Corrado praised ATI’s performance as “outstanding,” stating that ATSG has received numerous bonuses from customers for achieving performance benchmarks padding their bottom line.

“Regardless of praises by upper management and performance bonuses earned by ATI pilots, we have still not secured a contract that reflects the ‘outstanding’ contributions our pilots make for the ultimate success of ATI and ATSG,” added Sterling.

ATI is the largest carrier in the world for Amazon Air and supports the U.S. Department of Defense with cargo and passenger operations to remote locations across the globe. ATI pilots have delivered above and beyond expectations, yet the leadership refuses to acknowledge the value ATI pilots bring to the company with a market-based contract.

“Though many of our pilots intended to fly at ATI their entire career, they’re leaving in droves for our many competitors offering far superior work rules and compensation. More than 28 percent of the pilot group has left ATI year to date, and we expect resignations to increase as management draws out contract talks,” said Sterling. “The question ATSG leadership and investors should be asking is whether ATI will be able to continue to deliver performance bonuses without its experienced senior pilots.”
