Air Canada Pilots Send Notice to Bargain to Management
TORONTO—The Air Canada Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) has officially provided a notice to bargain to Air Canada management. The union is looking forward to scheduling its first bargaining meeting with the Company in the coming weeks.
“Air Canada pilots are fully invested in our company, customers, and our country. We’re proud of the profession we’ve chosen and take very seriously our jobs transporting our passengers safely to their destinations,” said F/O Charlene Hudy, Air Canada MEC chair. “In order to remain competitive in the global economy, Air Canada must address career progression and job security for its pilots, as well as the growing wage gap between the United States and Canada.”
The Air Canada pilots recently became ALPA members, under the strong belief that when pilots stand together and speak with one voice, they are stronger together, and can further improve their industry.
The Air Canada MEC Negotiating Committee expects management to recognize the pilots’ professionalism and contributions to the growing success of the airline. The committee is ready to work with management for a better contract, ultimately attracting future aviators to join their ranks, and helping the airline achieve consistent and reliable service for their customers.
“The Air Canada pilots have not been in a meaningful negotiating position since 2014, and in these negotiations, we are striving for a historic contract for our Air Canada pilots to address this growing disparity between the United States and Canada,” explained Hudy.

Les pilotes d’Air Canada signifient un avis de négociation à la direction
Toronto, ON – Le Conseil exécutif national (CEN) d’Air Canada de l’Association internationale des pilotes de ligne (ALPA) a officiellement signifié à la direction d’Air Canada un avis de négociation. Le syndicat espère que la première rencontre qui marquera le début de la négociation avec la Société aura lieu au cours de semaines à venir.
« Les pilotes d’Air Canada sont pleinement investis dans l’entreprise, la clientèle et le pays. Nous sommes fiers de la profession que nous avons choisie et nous prenons très au sérieux notre travail consistant à transporter nos passagers en toute sécurité vers leur destination, dit la Première officière Charlene Hudy, Présidente du CEN d’Air Canada. Pour demeurer compétitive au sein de l’économie mondiale, Air Canada doit aborder les enjeux de la progression de la carrière et de la sécurité d’emploi de ses pilotes. L’entreprise doit aussi régler l’écart salarial grandissant entre les pilotes des États-Unis et du Canada ».
Les pilotes d’Air Canada sont récemment devenus des membres de l’ALPA et ils croient fermement que lorsque les pilotes sont unis et parlent d’une même voix, ils sont plus forts et peuvent contribuer à l’amélioration de leur industrie.
Le Comité de négociation des pilotes d’Air Canada s’attend à ce que la direction d’Air Canada reconnaisse le professionnalisme des pilotes, ainsi que leurs contributions au succès croissant du transporteur. Le comité est prêt à travailler avec la direction à l’obtention d’un meilleur contrat de travail. Son intention est aussi d’attirer des nouveaux pilotes au sein de leurs rangs et ainsi aider le transporteur à offrir à ses clients un service stable et fiable.
« Les pilotes d’Air Canada n’ont pas été en véritable position de négocier depuis 2014 et pour la négociation qui arrive, nous visons la conclusion d’un contrat historique pour les pilotes, un contrat capable de régler la disparité croissante entre les États-Unis et le Canada », dit encore Charlene Hudy.
