Taking a UAS Home for the Holidays? Register Now!

If you are purchasing an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that weighs more than 8.8 ounces and intend to operate it outside this season, you must register as a UAS owner with the Federal Aviation Administration and learn how to operate it safely in airspace shared with airliners carrying passengers and cargo.

While the Air Line Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA) feels that registration would be most efficient if you could do it when you buy the UAS, anyone purchasing one under 55 pounds must register at Register My UAS before taking to the skies. People who have already purchased a small UAS must register by February 19, 2016.

Registration is just one important part of ALPA’s plan to safely integrate UAS into the national airspace. Learn more about UAS safety by visiting Know Before You Fly, of which ALPA is a proud supporter.
