This afternoon, the U.S. Senate confirmed Elaine Chao by a 93-6 vote to serve as our nation’s 18th Secretary of Transportation. ALPA looks forward to working with Secretary Chao to advance the aviation industry and ensure that the United States continues to usher millions of passengers and tons of cargo safely to global destinations each and every day and night.
This week, Samsung issued a detailed report regarding the issues associated with the lithium batteries for the Galaxy Note 7, the company’s smartphone that was recalled and ultimately canceled last year. The report came after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently banned passengers from carrying the phones on U.S. flights because of the dangers associated with overheating.
Emirates Airline plans to operate daily flights from Newark to Dubai through Athens beginning March 12 is yet another example of the airline massive subsidies it receives from the United Arab Emirates government.
U.S. Aviation Workers Sue Obama Administration to Reverse DOT’s Norwegian Air International Decision
ALPA filed a lawsuit today to overturn the Obama administration’s unfathomable decision to permit Norwegian Air International (NAI) to fly to and from the United States. As part of the continuing efforts to reverse the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) misguided ruling that will negatively alter the future of the U.S. airline industry, ALPA and several other U.S. labor groups representing more than 100,000 aviation workers filed a petition for review of DOT’s decision in the U.S. court of appeals.
